“Is the Lord With Us Or Not?” – Lent 2018
Even though we hear the promises of God in worship and from one another and read about them in the Bible, often times the situations of our lives leave us wondering really “is the Lord with us or not?” This Lent you are invited to join us as we wrestle with the tension between God’s promises
and common realities of our lives and our world.
5:30 p.m. - Soup Supper
6:00 p.m. - Cross-generational Study
6:30 p.m. - Worship
Feb 21 - Violence: In our lives and our world...
Feb 28 - Fear: The many things we are afraid of...
Mar 7 - Bullying: You don’t have to be young...
Mar 14 - Death: It still seems to sting...
Mar 21 - Silence: When God doesn’t respond...
Special thanks to members of the Worship and Music and Christian Ed Boards for helping with this theme .
Daily Devotional Pattern
Throughout these 40 days, as we struggle with this question, you are invited to take five minutes each day to dwell on God’s promises in response to the situations we are looking at each week. If you choose to do this, first read the passage for the appointed week. Consider how the theme of the week relates to someone or some situation you don’t know personally, someone you do know, and then yourself. Then pray about each one.
Date: Theme: Verse:
Feb 15-21 - Violence John 14.27
Feb 22-28 - Fear Isaiah 43.1-3
Mar 1-7 - Bullying Romans 8.38-39
Mar 8-14 - Death Romans 6.3-5
Mar 15-21 - Silence I Kings 19.11-12
Use your five minutes on March 22-24 to pray for God to open your heart as we journey toward Holy Week, waiting for God’s response...
